Understanding Corsetry: Fit & Patterning

Class Description: In this class we will discuss the geometry and patterning of corsets, including the unique fitting challenges of these highly precise garments. Students will get an opportunity to take their measurements and walk through grading a pattern, which they can then take home or use in the next step class: “It’s a Cinch: Learning Corsetry Construction”.

***Note: Each student should be comfortable measure themselves in-class and should bring appropriate, close-fitting clothing.

Class Kit: $32, includes pattern and materials required

Skill Level: Intermediate

Required Skills: Basic sewing skills & understanding of machine sewing

Other Supplies Needed: Marking pen, fabric scissors, soft measuring tape, curved dressmaking ruler (some rulers will be provided for shared use in class)

Age Restriction: 16 years and older
